As
your representative and International Region VP, my emphasized goals are to
assist and promote our international membership; Help you establish, stretch and
reach your goals in clowning; And to act as your catalyst to share your
adventures and accomplishments with the rest of the clown world! Cultivating and
developing membership and alleys go hand in hand as we strive to create smiles
and relief throughout our individual regions and the world!
Outside of my clown world, my career has been in and closely associated with
our military forces overseas. I’m currently entering my 34th year in government
service. In my younger days I was active in youth sports, scouting, and church
activities. For a while, I even took music lessons; (accordion; as my mother was
a big Lawrence Welk fan!) I entered the U.S. Air Force in 1973 and after initial
training and technical schools; I spent a lot of time within the Pacific Region
where I continue to live, work and play!
My clown background began more than 20 years ago when I began visiting
hospitals, orphanages and care facilities seasonally as “Santa’s helper”.
Surprisingly, it took many years for me to recognize I had only been one small
step from being able to clown full time, all year long! I soon realized that
“THAT” was my calling. I have since had more fun than should be allowed!
Memberships in several clown organizations provide me with a constant flow of
new information and ideas to share and play with. Being a foreigner living in
Japan gives me an added license to play. But I still seem to embarrass my wife
(of 30 years) when we go out, whether we’re in a store, a restaurant or an
elevator. It’s unintentional I promise! But at least now I have an excuse. In
addition to being a “gaijin [foreigner]”…I’m also… “A CLOWN!”
